Branch 139 Social Media Policy
Policy
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139, Streetsville Overseas Veteran's Club (Branch 139) will strive to show our pride in the organization and celebrate the successes of our members in our communications using social media. We encourage all members and staff to support the Legion in their online communications and ask our followers to get involved, become a member, and show their support for our Veterans.
Members and staff are asked to be honest and transparent and make clear that any opinions expressed on social media are those of the individual and do not represent the official views of the Legion. Those communicating will be responsible, respectful, and factual. Members and staff are asked to use their best judgement, be considerate of privacy concerns, sensitive around inflammatory topics, and respectful. Consideration and restraint should be used before sending outgoing information.
Official information released by Branch 139 will be approved by the responsible individual on the Branch Executive, typically the Branch President. Our preferred method of communication is through electronic mail and email addresses for persons on the Branch 139 Executive and Executive Committees can be found on the Branch 139 web site "Contact Us" page.
As a general rule Branch 139 will not communicate "one to one" using social media (examples: "friending" in Facebook, return "tweets" on Twitter, LinkedIn "connections", etcetera). Branch 139 may, from time to time, respond to social media posts as time and resources allow. We are a volunteer organization with limited resources but we will do our best to keep our social media information current and accurate and respond to electronic mail requests in a timely fashion. Similarly, at this time we do not have the capability to sell online tickets or make online reservations for our events. Requests for information can also be sent to "info@streetsvillelegion.ca".
What We Are
"The Legion serves all Veterans
The Royal Canadian Legion was founded by Veterans and for Veterans. We advocate for the care and benefits for all who served Canada, regardless of when or where they served. The Legion also provides representation and assistance to Veterans, including currently serving Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families, and access to our services is available to them at no cost, whether or not they are Legion members. The Legion helps thousands of Veterans each year and makes significant positive changes in their lives.
The Legion exists so that Canada never forgets
The Legion understands the importance of honouring past sacrifices and acknowledging the courage of those who served and still serve today. Through Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Poppy campaign, commemorative activities, youth education programs and more, the Legion helps Canadians to honour and remember.
The Legion serves our communities and our country
The Legion is a non-political and non-sectarian organization. Legion Branches are the cornerstone of communities across Canada, and provide one of the largest volunteer bases in the country. With over 1,000 Branches from coast to coast to coast, our members provide local services and supports to build a stronger Canada. Whether helping local Veterans, supporting seniors, providing youth sports programs, raising funds, volunteering to help those in need, or simply offering a place to gather for fun and celebration, Legionnaires provide essential services in their communities."
